Aamir Khan’s Dangal has crossed Rs 300 crore mark on January 4, reported trade analyst Taran Adarsh. The film released on December 23 and in its first week itself, it collected Rs 197.54 crore. In Week 2, Dangal made a stupendous box office performance and collected Rs 106.84 crore. Now, in the third week, the sports biopic has managed to garner Rs 304.38 crore. Taran Adarsh said that Aamir Khan’s sports drama film Dangal is an ‘all-time blockbuster.’ The film had already set a new record for the highest single day earning of any film with Rs 42 crore on December 25, toppling Salman Khan’s Sultan. Dangal received rave reviews from critics as well as from celebrities. Salman tweeted about how his family thought Aamir’s film was better than his own offering Sultan. Saif Ali Khan described Aamir’s performance as ‘phenomenal’ while Karan Johar said that it is Aamir’s best work so far. Haider actor Shahid Kapoor, who saw the film recently, tweeted on Thursday: “Finally got to see Dangal. And loved it. Aaahhh the pleasure of watching a good film.”
Aamir Khan stars as Haryanvi wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat in Dangal and portrays his life journey on how he trained his daughters Geeta and Babita Phogat in wrestling despite his patriarchal village society. Debutants Fatima Sana Sheikh and Sanya Malhotra play Geeta and Babita Phogat and TV star Sakshi Tanwar features as Mahavir Phogat’s wife Daya Kaur.
Dangal is Aamir’s first film in two years after PK. The film was Bollywood’s most successful film so far, and now Dangal is on the verge of breaking PKs box office record.
The film is directed by Nitesh Tiwari and is produced by Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao and Sidharth Roy Kapur. Dangal has also been declared tax-free in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
