India’s unbeaten winning streak has come to an end as India crumbled under the pressure O’Keefe and Lyon, in the first test.
Chasing 441 on Day 3 of the first Test, India was bowled out to 107 to suffer a 333-run defeat, India’s second biggest defeat at home ground.
The brilliance of Australian spinners Steve O’Keefe and Nathan Lyon had put an end to India’s misery in 33.5. Steve O’Keefe finished with his excellent match figures of 12/70. A well fought century from Smith also contributed to India’s humiliating defeat.
Openers KL Rahul and Murali Vijay both went back in the pavilion within 6 overs. Kohli and Chesterhwar Pujara tried to maintain the balance but both failed before spin deliveries. No other Indian batsmen could provide resistance apart from Pujara. Changes in the batting order done by Kohli haven’t proved effective.
India were on back foot in both batting and bowling. Indian skipper, Kohli was surprised to watch the tourists exploiting the pitch conditions better than Indian bowlers.
This was Virat’s first loss as a captain in india. “This is big learning curve for me. Aussies used Indian pitch conditions well” he said.
