The Bellandur Lake Bangaluru was on fire once again on Sunday afternoon. This time smoke could be seen billowing from the centre of the lake. The fire is expected to cause traffic delays in surrounding areas, as the smoke would reduce visibility.
The incident was reported by residents living in the vicinity of the lake at around 2pm and it finally subsided by 4.30pm.
It was in the month of February when another part of the Bellandur Lake suddenly caught fire and created panic amongst the residents living nearby. Then fire personnel as well as local police had to rush to the spot to bring the situation under control.
Senior officials from the Pollution Control Board along with others responsible for the maintenance of the lake visited the location, took stock of the situation and promised action. But 3 months later, nothing has changed.
The National Green Tribunal had even issued notices to all the agencies involved in the upkeep of the lake following the fire in February. It had asked the agencies to submit a plan of action to keep the lake safe.
