BJP called for a harthal in Kannur district and Mahi today with respect to the murder of RSS activist Choorakadu Biju. It will be a six to six harthal. Vehicles have been averted from the hartal
BJP Kerala unit president Kummanam Rajasekharan has proposed to impose the Armed Forces Act (AFSPA) in Kannur district, where an RSS activist was murdered Friday.
Kummanam said his party would submit a memorandum to the governor requesting that the central law is implemented in the northern district.
“With the latest murder, it has been proven that the state government cannot stop the criminals in Kannur.
The CPM has failed in the efforts to bring in peace in the district. AFSPA should be implemented in Kannur for maintenance of law and order there,” he said.
AFSPA is a law with six sections granting special powers to the Indian Armed Forces in what the act terms as “disturbed areas.”
Kummanam said even chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan was unable to rein in the goons in the district.
