The Delhi government is on a new mission to make Delhi mosquito-free ahead of the monsoon. With the rising number of chikungunya, dengue and malaria cases, the government called a meeting of all stakeholders to discuss about the issue.
Representatives from all municipal bodies participated in the meeting chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, which was held at the Delhi Secretariat today.
Between January and April, about 80 cases of chikungunya, 30 of dengue and 10 of malaria were reported from the various city hospitals.
“We are preparing a proposal for making entire Delhi mosquito-free. The neighbouring states will also be roped in,” said Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi.
“We have asked the officials to make a plan to ensure that the pathology labs are also not overcharging for tests of vector borne disease,” Manish added.
The Deputy CM also said that sale of drugs containing Brufen will be banned during outbreak of vector-borne diseases.
“We will ensure an increase of 10-20 percent of beds in the government hospitals. Also, we will float a helpline number for availability of beds in hospitals. The data of beds will be put online,” he added.
