Defence Minsiter Arun jaitley after his visit to Jammu and Kashmir tweeted that “aggressive domination” by the country’s troops on the Line of Control (LoC) is “very satisfying”.
The Union minister further tweeted that he met with some of the troops along the Loc yesterday. He also reviewed the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
During his interaction with the troops in Rampur, Jaitley praised their morale and assured them that the entire nation was with them. He further urged them to be ready “to always foil any misadventure from across the border”, an army official said.
Jaitley yesterday also held a high-level meeting where newly-appointed defence secretary Amit Mitra and Army chief General Bipin Rawat were present.
The minister was in J&K to attend a Goods and Services Tax meeting. On his trip he also met chief minister Mehbooba Mufti.
Tensions have been high on the border since the Pakistani army beheaded two Indian security personnel in the Poonch district of the state earlier this month. There has also been a spurt in militant attacks lately, as well as repeated ceasefire violations by Pakistan on the LoC.
According Army sources Pakistani troops were involved in 67 ceasefire violations in the first four months of 2017, with the maximum of 26 incidents reported in April.
