Instagram rolls out new update

Instagram introduces location Stories on Explore
Instagram has rolled out new updates which are thankfully not copied from Snapchat, for now. Instagram’s new updates will be visible in the Explore section which is the second tab on the app, just next to the Home icon. The new updates include location and hashtag on Stories for the Explore tab. Now users can see Stories based on their current location and through hashtags as well.

If your location is enabled on Instagram, the Explore tab will show you public Stories of those users within the same area. The update has been rolled out to both Android and iOS platforms.

Instagram Stories of users who put the location sticker on their Stories will appear on one’s Explore tab. The location tag is available under the Sticker icon on Stories. A new story ring will appear on top of the Explore with the name of the location which will feature all the collected Stories from within the same area. Users can also search for any location around the globe and a story ring will appear on top of the location page showing all the Stories of that area.

Instagram has also introduced hashtag Stories on its Explore tab. Now when you type a hashtag on the search bar, along with posts, a story ring will appear on top filled with Stories using the same hashtag. Just like the location based Stories, here too, Instagram will show a collection of Stories using the desired hashtag collated into one. Instagram had rolled out the hashtag feature on Stories just last week which works the same as mentions. Users can tap on the hashtags which will open a new page filled with posts using the hashtag.

These two new features have already been rolled out and users can add a location sticker or a hashtag to their Stories to get started on this. To see if your story has been added to the larger story, there will be a line on top of the viewers list showing how many people have seen it. Those who wish to opt out from this feature can do so by tapping on the X icon of the larger story visible on top of the viewers list.

Instagram’s Explore feature really works when it comes to finding new and different content based on one’s usage pattern. According to the kind of posts liked, searched for, viewed, Instagram will deliver related content on the Explore section.

With the inclusion of location and hashtags on Stories for the Explore section, it will help people get more visibility on Instagram. This will especially help people who use Instagram for work purposes in terms of promoting their brand and products.
