Veteran Telugu film director and former Union Minister Dasari Narayana Rao died at Hyderabad on Tuesday.
Dasari, 75, was undergoing treatment for the reconstruction of his food pipe at KIMS Hospital in Hyderabad.
Rao is believed to have developed kidney problems after the initial surgeries and was on dialysis. He suffered a massive heart attack on Tuesday.
A veteran filmmaker, he had directed around 151 films, mostly Telugu, during his career. He was an actor and a producer as well. He received two National Awards. Rao is best known for films like Premabhishekam, Megha Sandesham, Osey Ramulamma and Tata Manavadu.
In April 2000, he joined the Congress and was elected to the Rajya Sabha. He was Minister of State for Coal and also got embroiled in the coal scam. The CBI had registered an FIR against him in June 2013 for allegedly receiving bribes while he was the minister.
