Celebrating the Holy Month of Ramadan, DubaiSat-2, a satellite owned and operated by the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) captured a satellite image of Makkah Grand Mosque in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
DubaiSat-2 captured high-resolution satellite images (1 meter) used for urban planning and mapping, monitoring environmental changes and disaster management.
The satellite’s camera features a 1-metre panchromatic resolution and a 4-metre multi-spectral resolution (coloured images) and can store 512 images, each 12km x 12km in size.
The satellite, which was launched in November 2013, weighs 300kg, is two metres tall and 1.5 metres wide and was developed by Emirati and South Korean engineers.
It will provide higher quality, electro-optical imagery for environmental projects, urban planning and infrastructure. It can scan the world, taking multiple images of the specific areas in a day, and also transmit and process these images.
