India on Wednesday raked up the issue of Pakistan-sponsored terrorism at the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) and said that the country must vacate illegal occupation of a part of Kashmir (PoK).
Raising the issue of Pak-sponsored terrorism at the United Nations 35th session of the Human Rights Council, India said “Pakistan must rein in its compulsive hostility towards us.”
“The entire state of Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India and that Pakistan remains in illegal occupation of a part of our territory. Therefore, the neutrality of the phrase “Indian-administered Jammu & Kashmir” is artificial,” Rajiv K Chander,India’s Permanent Representative at the United Nations, asserted during the session.
He also said that the state has an elected democratic government and represents all sections of the people unlike the situation in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.
“The central problem in Jammu & Kashmir is cross-border terrorism, and Pakistan’s use of terrorism as an instrument of state policy. This fact needs due recognition by one and all. We firmly believe that a policy of zero tolerance to terrorism is as much an international obligation as it is a commitment to our own people,” he said, adding that a robust independent media and civil society combined with an impartial judiciary, should act as the sentinels of Indian democracy.
This comes after Pakistan delegation, last month, raked up the Kashmir issue and demanded a ban on the use of pellet guns by Indian security forces. It also asked India to allow a UNHRC fact-finding team to visit Kashmir and review the situation
