In a failed robbery bid, a 20-year-old man attacked his grandparents after trying to rob them at their house in Outer Delhi’s Rohini, police said.
The aged couple fought back and raised an alarm, which paved the way for the arrest of Rajat and his friend Rishabh, with the help of neighbours.
Rajat’s 68-year-old grandmother Shakuntala, however, lost a tooth in the assault and suffered other injuries. Police said that she is out of danger.
Rishi Pal, DCP (Rohini), said that Rajat was aware that his grandparents had recently sold a house and got a good sum of money. He and his friend, had planned to rob them.
On Saturday afternoon, Rajat’s friend gained a friendly entry into the couple’s house on the pretext of repairing the gas stove. Minutes later, Rajat forcably entered into the house. He had covered his face with a helmet.
The duo was armed with a toy gun and a hammer. They tried to rob the couple at gunpoint even as Shakuntala’s husband, 78-year-old Ramlal, raised an alarm and alerted the neighbours.
That led to a retaliatory assault in which Shakuntala was injured and lost a tooth. The duo, however, was arrested before they could rob anything.
The accused duo had studied till Class 12th together, and are currently unemployed. The police have decided to reward the elderly couple for their bravery.
