Dengue fever cases spreading at an alarming rate across the state. Hospitals officials are finding it tough to solve out the increasing number of fever patients in each district.
The state health department has issued strict directions to all local bodies for carrying out effective measures for source-level reduction of mosquitoes.
Friday alone 17,789 fever cases were reported in the state of which 161 are dengue cases. When 680 fever patients were admitted to various hospitals in the state on a single day.
Two cases of H1N1 were also reported on Friday. In June alone, 2,11,148 cases of fever were reported in the state and 2,065 cases of dengue fever.
Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said the state government should declare a medical emergency in the state as the number of fever cases is skyrocketing.
In the list of dengue hot spot districts published by the health department, Thiruvananthapuram tops the chart followed by Kollam, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kannur.
In Palakkad, the health department has issued a warning on the possible outbreak of cholera in the district.
