Can you imagine a world without Wi-Fi? Wi-Fi has changed the way we use our gadgets, freeing us from wired connections so we can watch video, send email and video chat with friends almost anywhere we want.
In remote areas in the developing world, Wi-Fi has an even greater impact, changing people’s lives, allowing them to connect with the rest of the world, as well as providing education and economic opportunities. However, there are 4 billion people around the world who don’t have access to Wi-Fi.
To draw people’s attention to this digital divide and celebrate the way Wi-Fi helps us keep connected, the Wireless Broadband Alliance, an organisation that champions Wi-Fi development, is launching a new initiative – ‘World Wi-Fi Day’.
Worldwide event on June 20 celebrates the role of Wi-Fi in our lives, while highlighting the importance of getting everyone connected.
To celebrate World Wi-Fi Day, BT is giving away one hour of free Wi-Fi internet access so you can get connected.
With over 5 million hotspots in the UK, BT has the UK’s biggest Wi-Fi hotspot network, in partnership with Fon.
For one hour, you can go online to experience the benefits of wireless internet: you might want to check your email, update Facebook or get directions.
To claim your free one-hour pass, register at: www.btwifi.com/worldwifiday today.
You have got until July 22 to get online at any of the UK’s 5 million hotspots. Once your hour is up, you can extend your access from £4.
