Lion cub chased by men in Gujarat; video goes viral !

A video of a group of men chasing a lion cub with one of them egging the driver of the vehicle to ‘go faster’ and ‘shoot it’ has sparked an investigation by the Forest Department in Gujarat recently.

The video, allegedly taken near Gir, shows a lion cub being chased by a group in a vehicle. One of the passengers is heard saying “go faster, shoot it, kill it” excitedly while the driver remains hesitant at those suggestions. Fortunately, the startled cub is able to lose them at a fork in the road by taking the right turn, making it impossible to continue their chase.

The video was submitted by a non-profit, prompting the Forest Department to launch a search operation to locate the culprits.

While Gir is popularly known as a sanctuary for the endangered Asiatic Lion, with around 400 lions living in the 1400 sq. km forest. However, increase in human activity around the forest has resulted in frequent contact between man and animal, with many incidents often being sour instead of pleasant.
