Now electric bicycles are better idea than electric scooters. Lightspeed Mobility, a startup that is riding on the crowd-funding platform Fuel A Dream, has launched two electric bicycles – the Glyd and the Dryft.
These two electric bicycles are available at a price of Rs 27,999 for the Glyd and Rs 37,999 for the Dryft. Those who logged on to the crowdfunding platform earlier, could have got these bikes at Rs 3,000 less, as part of the initial fundraising.
Lightspeed was looking to raise Rs 15 lakh through crowdfunding to launch these bicycles and has already collected more than Rs 10 lakh.
The Lightspeed cycles Glyd and Dryft cater to city commuters and adventure seekers respectively. The Glyd comes with pedal-assist technology, where an electric hub motor gives you boost, via a handgrip throttle, while you can also pedal without any effort.
It comes with three levels of pedal boost, a top speed of 25 kmph and a battery range of 35 kilometres per charge.
The Dryft comes with a top speed of 25 kmph, but a longer battery range of 50 kilometres per charge. It also features a front suspension and five levels of pedal boost through its hub motor. Both these do not have gears.
These two bicycles will compete with other electric bicycles in the market like the e-Ridelite (priced between Rs 37,000 and Rs 53,000) and Hero Cycles’ Lectro (priced between Rs 42,000 and Rs 83,000).
The e-Ridelite and Hero bikes come with gears, while these are gearless.
Such pedal-assisted electric bicycles are convenient for short distance commuting and can be used by anyone as they don’t require a licence or registration. They have a better range than electric scooters as well as a quicker charging time too.
The big advantage is that they can be used like normal cycles too, in case the battery runs out or if you want some exercise. With cities getting increasingly congested, these do make a case for themselves.
