BMW finally launched the 2017 BMW 5 Series at an introductory price of Rs. 49.90 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, post GST) in India. The all-new sedan comes in four trim levels: 530i Sportline, 520d Sportline, 520d LuxuryLine, and 530d M Sport.
The 2017 BMW 5 Series is bigger and more spacious than the outgoing model. It is 30mm longer, 7mm wider, 15mm taller than the preceding model, while the wheelbase has also been extended by 5mm.
The new sedan is also lighter by 70 kgs as compared to the current model. As for the features, the new 5 Series sedan gets wireless charging tech for smartphone, BMW smart key, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with voice command, navigation, cruise control and climate control, touchscreen key fob, couple of 10-inch display systems at rear, ambient lighting etc. to name a few. It also features a 70 percent bigger heads up display as standard fitment.
Mechanically, the 2017 5 Series comes in both petrol and diesel fuel trims. The petrol variants are powered by a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine which develops top power of 248bhp and peak torque of 350Nm. The diesel variants get their power from a 2.0L 4-cylinder motor which belts out 187bhp and 400Nm.
The flagship 530d M Sport variant would get the duties of 3.0L V6 engine with maximum power of 262bhp and highest torque of 620Nm. All the engines come mated to an 8-speed automatic tranmsission as standard. For those asking, the BMW 5 Series was firstly introduced in 2010 in the Indian market and the company has sold 19,000 units of the sedan as of now, contributing to 30 percent of the overall sales in India.
