Former West Bengal Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi will be the joint opposition’s nominee for the post of Vice President in the elections for the post on August 5, sources said.
The news comes even as a meeting is underway of several non-NDA parties in New Delhi on Tuesday. The meeting has been called to specifically decide on a vice presidential nominee.
Sources said that on Monday that some in the opposition did not rule out the possibility of Dalit leader Prakash Ambedkar’s nomination for Vice President.
A small section also said the former West Bengal Governor, who was earlier among the top contenders for the opposition’s Presidential candidate, may find mention on the list of names during Tuesday’s meeting.
