Facebook had launched the ‘Lite’ version of its Messenger App in 132 countries but was left out India in April. The social media giant has finally made the grant entry of app in the country.
The app is now available only for Android users also. The Facebook Messenger Lite app takes up less than 10MB of space and includes all the basic features of the Facebook Messenger app.
Users can send and receive texts, photos, links, emojis and stickers using the ‘Lite’ version. They can also perform voice calls using the app.
Facebook launched Messenger Lite app in countries like Vietnam, Nigeria, Peru, Turkey, Germany, Japan and the Netherlands.
“In India with Messenger Lite, more people can stay in contact, regardless of network conditions or storage limitations on their Android devices,” said the officials.
Facebook Messenger Lite was introduced for Android October last year. Apps aim to let users stay connected to each other in places where there is low connectivity, that’s a lot more than just a messenger.
“With Messenger Lite, more people can stay in contact, regardless of network conditions or storage limitations on their Android devices.
Messenger Lite was built to give people a great Messenger experience, no matter what technology they use or have access to,” said Tom Mulcahy, Engineering Manager for Messenger Lite.
Talking about Facebook Messenger, the social media firm recently announced the global beta expansion of its Messenger ads. This will make more users and advertisers will now see ads on Messenger.
These ads will be visible on the home tab of Messenger and not inside chat threads. The Messenger ads will gradually expand to a great number of users in the coming months.
It is worth noting that Facebook Messenger already shows some sponsored messages and ads. However, these are directly pulled from the main Facebook News Feed.
