A suspect, who attempted to rob a money exchange in Abu Dhabi, has been arrested by Police.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the police said that the Filipino suspect was wearing a mask and armed with pepper spray and a knife, which he used to threaten the money exchange staff. The suspect was also carrying a rock, which he used to break the glass barrier that separates the money exchange cashiers from the customers. However, he fled the scene after his attempt to rob the exchange failed.
Brigadier Rashid Mohammad Borshid, Director of the Criminal Investigations Department, said they arrested 54-year-old suspect from his wife’s residence.
During the interrogation, the suspect confessed to the attempted robbery and said that he needed the money. The suspect said that he planned to take the money by force, using a knife and pepper spray.
Brig Borshid said that authorities would remain vigilant and to take action against anyone who tries to harm the security of residents in Abu Dhabi.
