For the second time in July, the Sri Lankan navy carried out the feat of rescuing wild elephants stranded in the sea. The latest rescue operation happened on Sunday.
On July 11, the Island nation’s navy undertook a massive task of rescuing a pachyderm struggling for its life eight nautical miles off Kokkuthuduwai coast in the eastern part of the country and won many praises. The elephant had apparently washed into the mid-sea after being caught in the sea currents. The eastern command of the navy deployed its vessels and crew to bring the elephant to the shore.
In a similar manner, the rescue measures were undertaken after an inshore patrol vessel of same eastern command spotted two wild elephants struggling in a sea on Sunday morning. They were swept into the sea between Round Island and Foul Point of Trincomalee coast.
The Sri Lankan navy website said a combined rescue mission had been launched by the navy and wildlife officials to save the two wild elephants.
