Malabar tourism hits jackpot: Formulated projects worth Rs 600 crore

The Kerala state government had formulated projects worth Rs 600 crore for the development of Malabar tourism. Tourism minister Kadakampally Surendran said that The Malabar Cruise Tourism project alone will cost more than Rs 300 crore.

“Already Rs 15 crore has been sanctioned for the construction of boat jetties and walkways along banks in Pazhayangai and Parassinikkadavu,” the minister said.

The minister’s announcement has come after Lonely Planet, the largest travel guide book publisher in the world, had picked North Kerala among the top 10 Asian spots.

“Tourist traffic to Malabar will increase once the water bodies and art forms in Valappatanam, Kuppom, Perumba, Ancharak-kandi, Mahi, Thalassery, Neeleshwaram, Tejaswini, Vilaya and Chandragiri in Kannur and Kasargod are promoted,” the minister said.

He said that the tourism prospects of North Kerala would vastly improve with Kannur airport becoming a reality. Mr Surendran said that a Rs 43-crore resort would be constructed in Muzhupp-alingad beach in Kannur.
