Metro services from Central to Tollygunge stations remained suspended since 9 pm on Tuesday after a fire broke out in an electric sub-station at Rabindra Sadan Metro station.
Smoke was found billowing out of the sub-station at around 8.46 pm. Despite this, Metro services continued till 9 pm.
But the power supply to the third rail had to be disconnected after that as a precautionary measure. As a result, there was no Metro service from Rabindra Sadan to Central station after 9 pm. But the service from Central to Dum Dum Metro station and Tollygunge to Kavi Subhas remained unaffected.
Five fire tenders were pressed into service and engineers of the Metro Railways worked for hours to repair the snag developed in the sub-station to ensure normal Metro services.
