Effective today, from July 26, 2017, anyone can change their car number plate with a sports-looking one in Ras Al Khaimah.
The smaller registration number in black and white colours would cost only Dh500 as per the new scheme launched by the Ras Al Khaimah Police and general resources authority.
Col Adel Ali Al Ghais, acting director of the licensure department of RAK police, said the sports number plates are available for all vehicles.
“Applicants only need to follow the set procedures and pay the due fees, and the regular number plates will be replaced with sports-looking ones immediately.”
“However, only the front number plate will be changed, and that will cost Dh500,” Captain Thaer of the RAK police said.
The move is in response to the so many requests of the public to replace their long traditional number places with smaller and sports-looking ones, Col Al Ghais said.
“They want to add a touch of beauty and luxury to their vehicles and share the feeling of owning exotic cars. Earlier, only sports cars were eligible for having sports number plates fixed.”
Col Al Ghais said the RAK police and general resources authority spare no effort to meet the public needs, and provide the best and most convenient services to them. “All our services are up to the latest international standards.”
Humid Al Marzouqi, an Emirati national, said he has asked the concerned licensure department several times to change his long number plates and replace them with smaller ones, but he was denied the service.
“I am so happy that they have reconsidered my request and others’ as well,” he said. “The sports registration numbers will make my Lexus car look more attractive on the road.”
Mohammed Ibrahim, an Emirati national, said he was looking for more changes in the new number plates. “I wanted to see more colours in the new sports plates as is the case in other emirates.”
Abdullah Al Saleh, an Emirati national, asked why only the front number plate can be changed. “I wished both number plates will be smaller, cheaper, and with more colours.”
