An Indian worker has been arrested for wrecking a police car and beating two policemen, who tried to restrain him while he was walking half naked and drunk in public.
Streetwalkers spotted a drunk man walking half-naked in the street and acting rowdily before they reported him to the police in June.
A police car was dispatched to the location and when policemen tried to restrain the 29-year-old Indian worker, according to records, he resisted arrest, beat the policemen, and kicked them in Naif area.
The Indian was drunk and resisted ferociously when the policemen tried to handcuff him before he also wrecked the handle of the police car’s door.
The policemen then managed to restrain the worker, put him in the police car and took him to the police station.
Prosecutors accused the suspect of beating two policemen, resisting arrest, intentionally wrecking police property and drinking liquor.
According to the accusation sheet, prosecutors said the suspect deliberately broke the door handle and caused a damage worth Dh1,033 to a police property.
The suspect admitted that he drank alcohol when he appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Monday.
However, he pleaded not guilty and refuted the accusations of assaulting two policemen and wrecking the police car.
“I was too drunk and I do not remember what happened on that day … I cannot remember how I behaved or what I did,” the suspect argued before presiding judge Abdul Halim Hussein.
One of the policemen testified to prosecutors that they rushed to the street when they spotted a group of streetwalkers gathered up around a half-naked man.
“The suspect turned out to be too drunk and he was behaving rowdily and shouting loudly … we lured him towards the police car and asked him to sit in it. He sat in the back seat and on our way to the police station he turned very rowdy … he tried to open the car door forcibly. We stopped the car and when we tried to calm him down, he turned physically violent. He resisted being handcuffed and assaulted my partner and me. He punched and kicked us. He also kicked the door very strongly and wrecked the handle … finally, we managed to restrain him and took him to the police station. I sustained minor injuries as well as my partner,” the policeman told prosecutors.
The other policeman confirmed his partner’s statement.
A ruling will be heard soon.
