From September 1, one lane at all toll plaza of national highways will be earmarked for vehicles with FASTags, the Road Transport and Highways Ministry said today.
“Out of all Hybrid Lanes, at least one shall be exclusively dedicated to FASTag vehicles where no other mode of Toll Payment shall be accepted. This exclusive one lane for FASTag vehicles will be operational with effect from September 1, 2017,” the Road Transport and Highways Ministry said.
FASTags can be installed on to the windshield of the vehicle, and toll payments are made directly from the pre-paid account linked to it.
From Friday, FASTags can be purchased online as well from the website of banks, National Highways Authority of India and Indian Highways Management Company Limited.
The government said that the installation and integration of Radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags at all toll plaza lanes are already in progress and will likely be completed by October 31.
