Former Manipur Chief Minister Rishang Keishing died on Tuesday at a private hospital due to multiple-organ failure. He was 98.
On July 1 this year, Keishing was admitted to the hospital due to age-related health problems. He was declared dead by the doctors at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences hospital at Imphal at around 6.30 PM on Tuesday.
Following his demise, the Manipur government declared a three-day mourning in the state.
He has served as Manipur has served as Manipur Chief Minister four times, besides stints in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.
Rishang Keishing, was born on 25th October 1919 in Bungpa Khunou village, He married to Khatingla Keishing and has four sons and two daughters.
He joined the Indian National Congress (INC) under the leadership of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and since then he remained a member of AICC.
He was the last surviving member of India’s first post-1947 Parliament. His term at Rajya Sabha, the Upper House of Indian Parliament ended on April 9, 2014.
