Onam is the traditional ten-day harvest fest, and it’s celebrated big in its home country Kerala. But the festival is also marked in Dubai style, too, namely through the huge tradition feast, sadhya.
To mark the occasion, Mazina in the Address Dubai Marina will be putting on a huge sadhya spread for all the family to enjoy as part of its Onasadhya Food Festival, taking place for a full 13 days, from Friday August 25 to Wednesday September 6 at 7pm to 11pm. It costs Dhs175 for adults, while kids aged six to 11 dine for Dhs88. Those under the age of six eat for free.
The lavish feast is traditionally vegetarian and made with a variety of seasonal vegetables. At Mazina, the grand Keralan feast will be celebrated with a wide range of south Indian dishes, all served on silver platters.
The buffet-style spread will offer 105 types of starters main course dishes and desserts, including such tasty-sounding traditional Onam plates as kalan (banana cubes cooked with curd, coconut paste, curry leaves and south Indian spices), erissery (banana or yam cooked with coconut jeera paste and dhal), and ela ada (rice flour cake spread on banana leaf steamed with banana, jaggery and grated coconut stuffing).
If you’re celebrating with family and friends, why not try something completely different this year and book in for Mazina’s ten-day food festival. And if you have yet to experience Onam in Dubai, Mazina’s Onasadhya night could be a great introduction to the Keralan feast.
