In the wake of the recent clashes in Punjab and Hariana, the UAE Embassy in New Delhi issued an advisory for Emirati citizens in India, asking them to stay away from crowded areas in Delhi, and states of Punjab and Haryana.
The advisory comes after at least 36 people died in violence after CBI special court judge Jagdeep Singh held Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who has hundreds of thousands of followers mainly in Punjab and Haryana, guilty of raping and sexually exploiting two female disciples in 2002.
Of the 36 victims, 30 died in Panchkula while six died in Sirsa town. Over 250 people were injured in the violence. The mob grew wild and atacked various public property. The government had retaliated in kind, with the army and black commandos prowling the streets to make sure that no violence was initiated.
Prohibitory orders were imposed in 11 of the 13 police districts in the national capital in the wake of the violence.
A media team from a national news channel was also attacked by followers of the Dera Sacha Sauda on Sunday.
