After complains from tantris that the main idol of the deity has is incurring damages, the supreme court sent lawyer Gopal Subramanium, currently amicus curiae to the apex court in the cases relating to the Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple to examine the idol.
Mr. Subramanium, who conducted an examination on instructions from the Supreme Court, has confirmed that the idol is fully protected and there was no major damage to it. Mr. Subramanium was accompanied by temple tantris, experts in architecture and temple representatives.
The amicus curiae arrived for carrying out the examination of the idol and to hold talks with members of the former Travancore royal family and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on the issue of opening the ‘B’ vault of the temple.
The court had directed him to hold talks with the members of the former royal family and to revert to it with their reply to the proposal. The royal family members had told the media on Tuesday, shortly before their meeting with the amicus curiae, they would oppose opening of the ‘B’ vault and dissociate with the exercise even if the tantri agreed to it.
