The Ajman public transport corporation has launched a new bus service that that will take passengers from Ajman’s Mussalah area directly to Al Rashidiya Metro station.
Omar Mohammed Lootah, executive director of transportation operations at the Ajman Public Transportation Corporation (APTC), told that seven buses “equipped with the latest technology” have been pushed into service. According to Lootah, the number of public transport users has increased in the first half of this year. Over 1.3 million passengers used public transport during this period – marking a 22 per cent rise in commuters as compared to last year.
In addition to the free WiFi, commuters can watch movies and check out news on a screen in front of their seats. “The screen is placed at the back of each seat for the convenience of each passenger,” Lootah added.
Ajman to Dubai tickets cost Dh15, while Dubai to Ajman tickets are priced Dh12. Lootah explained that the Dh3.5 million bus has a capacity of 50 passengers. Buses will ply every 30 minutes on the route.
He said the APTC currently operates 60 buses. “All bus stops in Ajman are equipped with an electronic screen that shows the dates and timings of buses, and the estimated time of arrival of the next bus.”
