At least eight patients have died in Bihar’s Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital over the last two weeks allegedly after they were given “expired blood”, a media report said on Saturday.
Doctors accused the hospital’s blood bank of tampering with the expiry date printed on the blood pouches.
However, the bank’s in-charge has refuted the allegations, insisting that the pouches were tested.
Meanwhile, the management has formed a six-member committee to probe the incident. It has been asked to submit a report within 10 days.
The state government has vowed strict action against the guilty.
Citing a resident doctor, it was reported that people clashed with hospital staff after the fatalities came to light.
The patients became restless after they were given the expired blood, a doctor reportedly said.
