The Ministry of finance on Tuesday announced the introduction of Rs 100 coins to commemorate AIADMK founder Dr MG Ramachandran’s birth centenary.
A notification from the ministry stated that along with Rs 100 coins, new Rs 5 coins will also be issued to mark the same occasion.
According to the report the Rs 100 coins will be 44 mm in diameter and will weigh 35 gm.
Two Sides of The Coin
On the obverse side, the face of the Rs 100 coin will bear the emblem in the centre with ‘Satyamev Jayate’ inscribed below in Devanagari script. It will also have the rupee symbol with denominational value ‘100’ inscribed on it.
The reverse side will have the portrait of MGR in the centre.
Tamil Nadu government had earlier requested the Centre to issue a commemorative coin and postal stamp on the birth anniversary of the former chief minister and Bharat Ratna.
