A toddler who was used for revenge between two feuding families is today fighting for her life and eyesight. Inhumane relatives injected acid into the baby’s eyes to settle scores.
Her father, Jayanta Chakraborty, is a village priest in Kolkata and runs his family on meagre income. He took the six-month-old baby to a local hospital, where the doctors there couldn’t do much for her eyesight. The child was attacked early this month and the police are investigating the matter.
The father alleges that her mother is also one of the conspirators in the horrific attack. No arrests have been made so far.
“The right eye was completely damaged and the left is severely infected. She may lose it too. The infection has spread to other parts of the head. It may lead to severe complication,” said Dr Bimalendu Saha, deputy superintendent at NMCH.
