Madras High Court orders interim stay on Vijay’s ‘Mersal’

A day after the release of the much-awaited teaser of Mersal, the Madras High Court has ordered an interim stay on the film on Friday. According to a report in a regional channel, the court has asked the makers to not advertise the film with its title ‘Mersal’ until further notice.

According to the reports, Sri Thenandal Films allegedly went ahead with the  title Mersal without registration as per a petitioner who filed a case in the Chennai court. He now wants to put a stop to the film promotions with this title. He has also claimed that he had registered this title in 2014. Following this complaint, the court has ordered a temporary ban on the film’s promotional activities until October 3rd.

While this news comes as a shocker for many, it isn’t surprising for Vijay fans. In the past, several Vijay films including Thuppakki, Kaththi and Thalaiva, have faced several hurdles before release.

Mersal teaser was unanimously appreciated by fans and clocked more than 10 million views on YouTube. The teaser that created waves on the internet, has now become the most liked teaser in the world, surpassing Ajith’s Vivegam.

The highlight of Mersal is its huge star cast including Kajal Aggarwal, Samantha, Nithya Menen, SJ Suryah and Sathyaraj. Baahubali writer KV Vijayendra Prasad has written the screenplay for the film.

Made on a lavish budget of over Rs 100 crore, Mersal is produced by Sri Thenandal Films. Tipped to be a commercial entertainer, Mersal is all set to hit the theatres on Diwali this year.
