Sony has just launched its latest flagship smartphone, the Xperia XZ1 in India. The XZ1 was first announced at IFA 2017 in Berlin alongside the Xperia XZ1 Compact and the mid-range Xperia XA1 Plus, which was launched in India on Thursday.
The Xperia XZ1 comes with a metal unibody design, Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box, Sony’s Motion Eye camera which can record slow motion video at a staggering 960 frames per second, top of the line specifications and Sony’s new 3D creator feature that allows you create 3D scans of objects.
Design wise, Xperia XZ1 is made out of metal with glass on the front. The old three piece construction found on the Xperia XZ and XZs has been replaced by a new unibody two piece setup on the XZ1. The smartphone has a 5.2-inch FullHD display with Gorilla Glass 5 on top for protection against nicks and scratches. It comes with HDR support, 138 per cent sRGB coverage and a few Sony proprietary technologies like TRLIMUNIOUS and X-Reality unit.
The biggest talking point of the Xperia XZ1 is the ‘Motion Eye’ camera unit on the back which not only supports 960 frames per second slow motion video capture but also allows you to create 3D scans of objects. The 19MP rear sensor can scan an object and save the file as a 3D image which you can then print via a 3D printer or share on social media. Sony calls this feature the 3D creator mode.
The rear camera has an aperture of f/2.3 and can shoot 4K video at normal speeds. On the front, there is a 13MP sensor with an aperture of f/2.0 and a 22mm wide-angle lens. The XZ1 also comes with many multimedia features on board – Clear Audio +, DSEE HX and S-Force Front Surround setup for balanced stereo sound.
In terms of connectivity, the XZ1 supports 4F VoLTE, NFC, Dual-band MIMO Wi-Fi a/c, Bluetooth 5.0 and USB 3.1. It comes with a USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer and comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack, a port which is fast becoming extinct in flagship smartphones these days.
The Sony Xperia XZ1 has been launched at a best buy price of Rs 44,990. The smartphone will be available via both online as well as offline channels from today, 25 September onward.
