Kerala Tourism bagged nine awards in various segments of the travel, tourism, and hospitality industry for 2015-16 at a function organised by the Union Ministry of Tourism on World Tourism Day in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Kerala Tourism received the ‘hall of fame’ award for the ‘most innovative use of information technology – social media/mobile app’ for the ninth consecutive year for tourism promotion using the services of IT solution provider Invis Multimedia.
In the ‘niche’ category, Kumarakom got the award for the best responsible tourism initiative.
Two other awards the department got were in the marketing category, including the ‘best tourism promotion publicity material’ for a film tourism brochure – ‘your next blockbuster destination’ and ‘excellence in publishing in foreign language other than English’ for a Spanish brochure titled “Reanimar – Enel Propio Pais de Dios”, conceived and developed by Stark Communications.
Kerala Tourism also got the third prize for the best State for ‘comprehensive development of tourism’ and the award for the ‘best civic management of a tourist destination category’ ‘C’ was bagged by Sarovaram Biopark in Kozhikode.
Three of the awards were bagged by private stakeholders. Lotus Destinations, Kochi, bagged the award for the best tour operator promoting niche segments other than MICE and adventure.
Vivanta by Taj, Kumarakom, received the best hotel award in the four-star category and Somatheeram Research Institute & Ayurveda Hospital, Chowara, south of Kovalam, bagged the best wellness centre award.
The awards were presented by President Ram Nath Kovind at a function at Vigyan Bhavan in the presence of Union Minister of State for Tourism K.J. Alphons. The awards for Kerala Tourism were received by Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran.
“It gives us immense pleasure to be lauded with the prestigious national awards in six different categories,” the Minister said.
Additional Director, Tourism, Jaffar Malik was present.
