An Italian woman , after failing to find a perfect soulmate, made an unusual decision to marry herself in a bizarre ceremony.
She looked ethereal in her splendid white gown, with a silver tiara headband. There was a three-layered wedding cake and more than 70-odd guests at the ceremony.
Everything was so elaborate and perfect, except that the groom was missing! And Bride Laura Mesi didn’t need one.
The 40-year-old fitness trainer from Italy had told her family that if she didn’t find “the one” by the time she turns 40, she would marry herself, according to La Repubblica.
In turning 40 and without having found her soulmate, Mesi decided to go for sologamy – the growing global phenomenon in which a person enters into wedlock with oneself.
Mesi’s family and friends attended the self-marriage ceremony, where she said “I do” to herself becoming the first Italian woman to marry herself.
Two years back her 12-year-long relationship ended abruptly. It was this that prompted her to take the bold step.
“I firmly believe that each of us must first of all love ourselves. You can have a fairy tale even without the prince (charming),” she reportedly told.
However, the self-marriage doesn’t mean she has stopped her ‘perfect mate’ pursuit. She says, “If one day I find a man with whom I can plan a future I’ll be happy, but my happiness does not depend on him.”
The self-marriage is over. And for her honeymoon, Mesi made it to Egypt all by herself. That’s the way to embark on a new journey!
