home decorations

This is how you can decorate your home based on your astrological sign !

There is a sense of magic that happens when you walk into a room and feel as if you belong. It is what we all strive for in our own spaces, but it can be surprisingly difficult to get just right.

Just picking a perfect paint colour can be a tricky process of trial and error. Fortunately, there is an easy way to fast track this process and hone in not only on the part of the colour wheel that will speak to you, but also on the type of decor that will best align with your innermost design sensibilities.

As per astrologers, looking to the stars can give us clues to our preferred hues, finishes, and furnishings.

“Your sun sign represents all the traits and quirks that distinguish you from others. Many of us naturally express the qualities of our sun sign in our fashion, though too often we neglect expressing ourselves through our choices in home decor,” astrologer Rebecca Gordon explains.

When your environment reflects your true cosmic nature, you become more relaxed and can then operate like a boss in your castle, as you should be.

Here, top astrologers weigh in on your next redesign.

Aries: reds, hot pinks, oranges, golds

As Aries is ruled by the planet of Mars, Gordon explains you need a home that immediately evokes power, confidence, and action, the same qualities that are among your strongest. “As you are fiery and active, you love to express yourself with bold interior designs and an equally bold, primary colour palette,” she says.

Famous Astrologer Ophira Edut says that your naturally competitive, driven mentality may come into play in your home, too. You will want to make your home feel alive and vibrant, so whenever your neighbours or friends stop by for Saturday afternoon cocktails, they will feel the intensity from the moment they walk in—hence the in-your-face hues.

As you are the zodiac’s first sign, Edut explains that you will likely want to switch up your home’s decor as seasonal trends emerge, since you are always first to the finish line or the party. The only issue is that constant remodeling can be cumbersome, never allowing you to settle into your home. To remedy your thirst for new, she suggests creating a play space or workshop that could serve as a single area that is smaller to transform, like a pantry, a mudroom, or an outdoor garden. She also adds that a statement-making piece of art will help tie your aesthetic together.

Taurus: browns, creams, earthy tones, blues

While Taurus is an earth sign, Gordon says those born under the sign of the bull have a design preference that teeters one of two ways: either an admiration of the feminine pastel shades of blue and pink, or an affinity towards rich, deep colours like browns, greens, or blues. If you fall in between these two extremes? “When in doubt, you can’t go wrong with a colour palette predominant in creams or off-whites, as you also have an affinity for floral patterns with coordinating, subtle hints of colour on accent pieces such as pillows, rugs, and throws,” Gordon says.

When you are shopping for your home, you will find yourself more attracted to higher-end furniture and goods, but only if they are practical.

As Edut notes, “You love to flaunt your sophisticated style and should invest in high-quality items that go the distance, from hand-carved wooden furniture to 600-thread-count sheets.” As you feel a constant tie to the planet, she also says investing in heavy, well-made, square-ish pieces that are low to the ground will give you the sense of rootedness you crave.

Gemini: chartreuse, orange, lime green, viridian green, and canary yellow

Moody and curious to your core, Gordon explains Geminis are attracted towards unique mental energy and vibrancy. These colours help tie together the palettes behind mod furniture and 60s-inspired graphic prints, creating what Gordon calls a “lively, flirtatious, and youthful feel, especially when you mix up the prints, which you do so well”.

Challenge yourself to combine old with new, modern with vintage, when you piece together your living space. Consider using these contrasting tastes to your advantage, making your guests raise an eyebrow when they walk into your apartment. “Versatility and variety are the keys for your social sign. Aim for lightweight, modern furniture that can be moved into different configurations for conversation or a TV binge marathon or pushed to the walls for an impromptu dance party,” Edut suggests.

The constant, connecting thread in your ever-changing mood is the atmosphere, which you prefer to keep airy and light. For this, Edut says to consider subway tiles, transparent Lucite chairs, and brushed metal fixtures—all of which draw attention at your next dinner party.

Cancer: whites, silver, Wedgewood blue, lavender, vintage pastels

While you may venture out daily into the world, you find your true peace at home. As a natural nurturer who seeks balance in their living area, Gordon says focusing on colours that settle and calm your spirit is the key. She says shying away from bold, harsh, or contrasting colours or patterns will ensure your haven isn’t interrupted.

As a sensitive water sign, the central theme for your oasis is cozy, and at the forefront of every room, Gordon recommends letting candles illuminate your way, creating a soothing experience. In addition to distressed woods, furry rugs, silver accents, and shades of white, Gordon suggests placing “moon flowers and other white flowers in a bouquet to greet you when you enter. Cancer is a family-oriented sign and is so much happier when there is a warm welcome into the house”.

Leo: gold, yellow, rust, turquoise and Bordeaux

At the center of the solar system is the sun, shining brightly on the planets below and casting a warm hue over your home, because Leo is ruled by this brilliant star.

Gordon says that Leos are happiest when their space is sun-drenched and playful. You appreciate being in the limelight, so having your home mimic a stage, complete with dynamic art pieces like masks or wall hangings, will help you express your personality.

Edut describes the home of a Leo as a “well-appointed castle filled with art and treasures, and your own impressive personal stamp lets the world know whose lair this is.” Much like a lion and his den, Edut says some of your pride is found in your home, so having an abode that can entertain is essential. As for the price tags? You will tend to lean towards luxury, so follow your eye. “Don’t shy away from adding a little bling—not that we need to tell you that,” Edut says.

Virgo: taupe, ochre, clean-linen white, navy

When you are at home, Virgo, you want to feel like you are at home. Unlike some signs who focus on bringing the chatter and conversation to their addresses, Edut notes Virgos need their habitat to remain peaceful.

Gordon says that the modest, classic white, or cream colour tones are easily adapted in nearly every room, especially with a pop of subtle colour. “Neutral greens and grays Virgos find most interesting and will always enjoy the crisp quality of a stark white wall or window dressing. They play between harvest neutrals and the Virgo iconic white,” she explains.

Grounded to the earth and strengthened by a foundation, Edut recommends creating an area where you can read, write, and work out any stresses. As you are confident in your own ability to accomplish tasks, Edut says to consider picking natural fibers and organic materials to create something unique.

Libra: pale pink, lavender, baby blue, gray

More than anything else as a Libra, you value relationships. This means you approach your home with what Gordon calls a “softness, grace, and elegance of life.” It is also important for you not to force anything in your home, since you want it to feel natural and welcoming without being overtly organized. While you will enjoy the subtle, soothing hue of the pale pink and the lavender, you may use the gray as your base stain.

For your home, Edut says to make beauty your motto. You will seek to build communication and connection in your home, so anything jagged or sharp will feel out of place in your spirit. “Build around a few great pieces of art or one-of-a-kind furniture, like a gorgeous dining table. Furniture should be comfortable but still solid and not overly plush,” she says. Another design rule to follow is the value of two. Since you want to foster relationships, having pairs of objects—like sofas facing each other—will help maintain your aura.

Scorpio: black, blood red, plum, crimson, Prussian blue

Sensual and mysterious, you will naturally gravitate towards furniture and linens that are plush and velvet, according to Gordon. Paying close attention to how colours make you feel will help shape your intuitive opinions towards them, allowing your space to match your intense moods.

“In a home, you require privacy and intimacy at all times, so you might lean towards a thicker window covering in a darker shade to ensure your favourite source of lighting—candles—illuminate the room,” Gordon says.

You can use your seductive nature to your design advantage in many ways. “Cultivate an air of mystery and ambiance with little nooks and low-lit hideaways separated by cleverly draped fabric or strategically placed lamps and side tables,” Edut suggests.

Sagittarius: neutral colours, green, plum, red and rust, turquoise

“As a Sagittarius you are prone to wanderlust; your interior landscape should reflect your love of travelling and the outdoors, and convey a felt sense of freedom when you walk in the door,” Gordon says.

As a fun-loving sign, you will find yourself gravitating towards pieces that are colourful and have meanings, perhaps mimicking the palette of lush greens in Ireland or the vibrant hues of sandy streets in Belize.

Instead of a nest, you prefer your home to feel like a bungalow, Edut explains, with each room encouraging discovery and adventure. Let your travels guide your decor: Embrace your wide-ranging interests and display pieces that either tell a story or spark conversation.

Capricorn: navy, hunter green, white, dove gray

Though you may sometimes wish you were more spontaneous, as the most responsible sign of the zodiac, traditional tones and heirloom pieces define your home. You will lean towards a more minimal colour palette that is surrounded by rich wood grains balanced by earthy hues, according to Gordon.

Edut says less is more for Capricorn decorators—and you stick to your guns and your gut. “You would rather invest in a few ageless workhorse items than follow the latest trends. You may have distinct and refined tastes, preferring antiques or furniture from a specific historical period or style: mid-century modern, Shaker, Balinese wood,” she explains.

Aquarius: turquoise, electric blue, silver, violet

Colour is never a finish you shy away from, especially since Gordon says those who fall under the Aquarius sun enjoy the cutting-edge of design.

You would pick form over function and statement-making pieces instead of comfortable ones. “Cool, electric colour schemes and reflective, futuristic materials like iridescent glass and steel are what you look forward to going home,” Gordon says.

Much like your attitude toward social settings, networking events, or life in general, your home should feel free-spirited and impromptu. Edut says an airy, uncluttered home with minimal belongings will help you create the vibe you are seeking.

“As the zodiac’s futurist, you love hanging pieces that feel make your home feel soaring and spacious: mobiles, sculptural light fixtures, draped silks,” she says. You also value smart house features, if for nothing else than a way to spark a laugh from a treasured soul.

Pisces: sea-foam green, light lavender, gradient blue, peach, silver

As a Pisces you are sensitive to others’ needs—and to the colours in your home. Water, specifically—a body that makes you feel at ease—can be an inspiring theme to dictate your colour scheme.

“Pisces is the most transcendent and dreamy of the zodiac, and they love the pastels and pale, natural shades that mimic those found at the beach, especially when the sun rises or sets over the water,” Gordon explains. These warm, calming hues can be scattered about your abode, maintaining a sense of tranquility in every room.

“Your home should feel like a retreat center and a spa with a touch of ashram, where you can escape into a safe cocoon. Your enclave is a place to pamper yourself and meditate,” Edut says. Music can also be a central theme of your area, as Edut says classical or romantic chords and lyrics playing through each home keep you at ease.
