Gujarat Assembly Election will implement VVPAT (Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail) after the successful implementation of the same in Goa state assembly election 2017. The system will be counted and tallied with the number of votes in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
The Election Commission decided to count the VVPAT slips of a random polling station in each Assembly constituency, to check with the polled votes in EVM. If the candidate is doubtful about the result of a particular EVM of a polling station, the candidate can request the Returning Officer to count the VVPAT slips.
The Chief Election Commissioner AK Joti, met political parties, DEOs, CPs, SPs, chief secretary, DGP and senior government officials while inspecting the election preparation in Gujarath. He said that the commission is committed to maintain the purity of elections and to deliver fair and transparent election. The CEC also said that a mobile app based complaint system regarding abuse of money will be activated in each district, which will enable people to file complaints with authorities.
The Commission advised DEOs to constitute election expenditure monitoring teams, in order to deploy the adequate number of flying squads and surveillance teams, to monitor the movement of money through banking channels, and to deploy specialized IT intelligence authorities at airports and railway stations, to check the misuse of money power. The CEC also welcomed suggestions regarding law and order, abuse of money, electoral rolls, and other issues raised by political parties.
