The ruling Congress Party in Punjab is celebrating as its candidate, Sunil Jakhar won the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha by-election by 1 lakh votes. The area was a BJP stronghold. With the chief opposition party AAP also in the running, the battle was seen as a prestige issue for the Congress, which won the assembly elections in the state six months ago.
