Airtel’s new Online Store, which was launched on Monday proffers a deal for its customers. For its existing and new members an iPhone of their choice at Rs. 7,777 with a bonus postpaid plan.
Although it looks tempting, interested customers have to read the fine print. The initial amount of Rs. 7,777 is only a down payment with a 2 year EMI of Rs. 2,499 each. The iPhone users will receive a postpaid plan with up to 30GB data per month, unlimited calling and Airtel Secure package that covers the device against physical damage and cyber theft.
The alluring offer is nothing but a poor deal where the customers end up paying more compared with the alternative i.e buy an iPhone and Airtel data package separately. The difference between the alternative and Airtel’s offer lies in the threshold of Rs. 10,000. And with the introduction of iPhone 8 and 8+, the value of iPhone 7 has gone down and is now easily available on shopping sites such as Flipkart and Amazon with their big Indian sale.
