Kamal Hassan’s ‘U-turn’ on most criticized demonetization

Actor Kamal Haasan, one of the renowned actors in Indian cinema finally apologized for what he said in favor of demonetization. Early this year, he hailed the move and came forward to support prime minister Narendra Modi. The apology came amidst the actor’s move to test waters ahead of his expected entry into politics.

While expressing regret for his earlier statement favoring note ban, Kamal said he realized that the problem is with the implementation of the same by the central government. It paved the way for immense hardship to the general public and did not yield desired results.

In his piece titled “A big apology”, Kamal writes, “I owe it to the people to apologize for supporting the plan in a hurry.”

The superstar has indicated that he is set to enter politics and even met Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal at his residence recently. Kejriwal backed his decision to join politics after the political discussion with the actor.

When Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the ban on high denomination Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes on November 8 last year in the nationally televised address to check black money, Kamal was among the first few celebrities who had supported the move. On the growing criticism over the demonetization, he too was filled with doubts about the move, especially because the government did not give a strong answer to all the criticism
