America seeks a strategic partnership with India for combating terrorism in south Asian regions. US Ambassador Nikki Haley asked UN in her address in an event organized by US India Friendship Council. Earlier this week Trump announced a new strategy for combating terrorism in Afghanistan and South Asia, in which the partnership with India is very essential.
The Trump Administration is hoping to expand India’s contribution in Afghanistan through a deep partnership. Nikki said in a statement that America’s overriding interest in Afghanistan and throughout South Asia is to eliminate terrorist safe havens that threaten the US. And to use all the elements of nation’s powers like economic diplomatic and military wealth to keep nuclear weapons out of the hands of terrorists, She said.
India has already made important contributions to the stability of Afghanistan.“We are really going to need India’s help in Afghanistan. They are the good neighbors and partner that we have in the region, So, having them help not only with infrastructure and the aide that they can give towards rebuilding Afghanistan, India can also help us to keep an eye on Pakistan,” Haley said.
The US ambassador said that the US is looking at India to help them more in Afghanistan particularly in economic and development assistance. The US has taken a “tougher approach to Pakistan harboring terrorists.” , Pakistan has been a partner to the US at times, but the actions by Pakistan government to give safe haven to terrorists who target Americans is considered as a great threat to America. For this new approach, US look forward to enhancing the understanding and restraint from both Pakistan and India.
President Trump said when he hosted Prime Minister Modi on his visit to the US in June that, India has a true friend in the US and it is a friendship based on shared values.
With the new strategic `help’ partnership between India and America, the relation between the two powerful nations would get stronger. India is a democracy that threatens no one, The US and India have both felt the pain of terrorism and we share the commitment to defeat terrorisms, Haley said.
