Illegal firework factory claims life of eight in Odisha

A massive explosion in an illegal firecracker factory at Odisha claims the life of eight people. Several people were seriously injured in the incident. Those injured have been shifted to Sriram Chandra Bhanj (SCB) Medical College Hospital at Cuttack.

The explosion at the firecracker factory took place on Wednesday night. The explosion happens while employers are busy in manufacturing firecrackers. The crackers were being made in an unauthorised manner which leads to the explosion.

Six persons, whose bodies were recovered, had died on the spot. Two of them succumbed to death today. Locals said the impact of the explosion was so severe that the structure, where the firecrackers were being made, was blown up and employees suffered extensive damage.

A medical board comprising specialists from different departments, including surgery and plastic surgery, has been formed to ensure proper treatment for the injured, condition of five injured persons are highly critical.

An inquiry into the incident has been launched and police personnel, fire brigade and Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) were present at the site. Forensic experts were also being sent to the spot, said police.
