Ram Mukherjee, a veteran producer and screenwriter in Bengali and Hindi cinema passed away at 5am earlier today at his residence. He was 84. He is survived by wife Krishna Mukherjee, daughter Rani and son Raja.
Sharing the news, Krishna Mukherjee was quoted as saying, “His blood pressure dropped suddenly and he was admitted to Breach Candy hospital where doctors declared him dead at 5 am. He was doing fine earlier and this was sudden.”
He has also directed several movies such as Raktanadir Dhara, Tomar Rakte Amar Sohag, Raktalekha and Ek Bar Mooskura Do to name a few.
Ram Mukherjee is one of the founders of Filmalaya Studios in Mumbai. His most famous works are Hum Hindustani and Leader. In fact, Ram had launched Rani Mukherjee in the Bengali film Biyer Phool (1996). He was cremated around 3pm today.
