Adityanath’s Taj Visit today: first ever BJP CM to visit Taj Mahal

UP Chief minister Yogi Adityanath to visit the historic monument, Taj Mahal, today. He reached Agra this morning. The visit is scheduled at around 11 am. This is for the first time a BJP Chief Minister visiting Taj Mahal. The Chief Minister had skipped the Taj Mahal when he first visited Agra on May 7 this year. The visit is most widely termed as a damage control after his government dropped the iconic 17th century monument to eternal love from the state’s tourism brochure. Yogi expected to spend 30 minutes at the Taj Mahal built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal.

He will inaugurate the tourist walkway from Agra Fort following which he will go to the western side of the Taj Mahal for a cleanliness campaign. He will later fly for Nagla Pema to inspect the spot proposed for a rubber check dam on the Yamuna. The visit comes after controversial Bharatiya Janata Party’s MLA Sangeet Som triggered a political slugfest by describing the marble monument as a “blot” on India’s culture and saying it was “built by traitors”. The statement drew widespread criticism.
