Actress Heather Lind made allegations against former President George H.W. Bush claiming that he sexually assaulted her from his wheelchair.
Former U.S President George H.W. Bush has issued an apology to an actress who accused him of groping her from his wheelchair while attending a screening.
Heather said the incident occurred 4 years ago at an event to promote the TV series Turn: Washington’s Spies. She revealed this via Instagram in a post on Tuesday, which has since been deleted.
The latest trend #metoo has brought forth a torrent of sexual harassment allegations against powerful male figures in entertainment, fashion and finance that followed the downfall of movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, who stands accused of assaulting and raping actresses.
Lind said that she decided to share her story after seeing a picture of the former president attending a benefit concert to raise money for victims of the hurricane-ravaged southern United States and Caribbean. He was on stage shaking hands with Barack Obama, with former Presidents of the U.S. on stage.
In a statement Bush’s representative said the former President did not deny the allegations, although it was an ill-judged attempt at humor.
Lind reported that the incident took place at a private screening for the TV series ‘Washington Spies’. The former President did not shake her hands, but instead touched her bottom and made a dirty joke’ while his wife just rolled her eyes. The half a dozen actors posed with the former President George H.W. Bush and his wife Barbara Bush. Her co-actor Kevin McNally who posed next to her for the photo tweeted his full support for disclosing the horrible yet true incident. Alexander the writer of the series commented that he too was present for the function and had witnessed the assault. He tweeted it was no joke gone awry.
Heather Lind ended her Instagram post with #metoo that has divided the people on how to interpret the story. Some comments are in favor of the actress whereas some are questioning the timing.
