Hacking warning as GCC carries most Botnet population in Middle East

Dubai carries the major share of Bot population after Riyadh in the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council). According to a result published by internet security software developers Norton as the global bot population grows to 6.7 million in 2016, GCC carries 11.4 percent Bot population of Middle East’s total.

A Bot refers to infectious computing machine which is connected to the internet and leads to hacking. The network of Bots is called as botnets and which can spread malware, viruses and commit other types of crimes. The new report is a study which mainly focuses on which country is having the most number of infectious Bots. Norton placed Riyadh in Saudi Arabia top ranked among the highest source of infections in GCC with 43.1 percent Bot population in the region. Kuwait placed third in the report with 13.2 percent of Bots in the area.

As a fact, about 2.53 million customers in the UAE were victims of Botnet attacks. The Mirai Botnet was one of the serious attacks happened last year. The attack affects half a million internet-connected devices such as IP cameras and routers. Most surprisingly the one in every 50 attacks were originated from a device in the middle east.

Consumers should run a full diagnostic if any warning signs appear. To safeguard against malicious bots increase the security settings of your browser and devices. Install robust security software and firewalls to secure your device. Use more complicated passwords or enable advanced security options like two-step verifications to safeguard social media accounts. Timely update your PC’s to get rid of spam ware and malicious ware invasion.
