Fine of Dh1000 introduced newly in UAE for this offense

In a history, Abu Dhabi traffic authorities introduced a new penalty for driving in hard shoulders. The hard shoulders are those who block the way of vehicles behind, especially emergency vehicles. As per the law a fine of Dh1000 will be imposed on hard drivers who block the way of emergency vehicles.

The Abu Dhabi Police reported that 97 cases of drivers not giving way to emergency vehicles were recorded in 2016. The Police refers the practice of blocking the way of emergency vehicles as an uncivilized behavior.

The Ministry of Interior in July issued new traffic amendments wherein the fine for driving on the hard shoulder was increased from Dh600 to Dh1,000 with six black points against the errant drivers. Their cars are seized for a period of 30 days. While drivers caught blocking emergency vehicles will be fined Dh1,000 plus four black points.

The delay in reaching hospitals are a major cause of death in Abu Dhabi roads. Police are conducting many awareness programs to impart awareness about the necessity of giving away to emergency vehicles.
