Pulwama encounter takes the life of 3 militants and a solider

On the 6th of November, in an encounter between security forces and ultras in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district took the life of 3 militants and a soldier.

Sources said troops of the Army’s 44-Rashtriya Rifles battalion and Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu & Kashmir Police launched a cordon-and-search operation in Kandi belt of Aglar area in Pulwama, on Monday evening, following information about the presence of some militants in the area.

the sources said that the party was lying in wait when the hiding militants opened fire on them, killing a soldier.

Accordiing to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Pulwama, Aslam Choudhary has identified the victim as jawan  Sham Sunder of 44 Rashtriya Rifles, who had sustained bullet injuries during initial exchange of fire with militants and was referred to Army hospital in Srinagar, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Defence spokesman, Col Rajesh Kalia, said that three militants hiding in the area have been killed. “Two AK-47 rifles and a pistol were recovered from the encounter site,” he said. The identity of the militants were not immediately known.

A civilian identified as Tariq Ahmad sustained a bullet injury during simultaneous clashes between protesting civilians and the security forces near the encounter site. The protesters were trying to disrupt the operation against the holed up militants. The police and paramilitary forces resorted to tear smoke shells and firing to disperse them, in which the civilian sustained bullet wound..  The injured civilian was shifted to hospital and reinforcements have been rushed to the area to augment the strength of the security forces engaged in the gunfight.

Following special intelligence inputs troops of the Rashtriya Rifles, state police and the Central Reserve Police Force had surrounded Aglar village on Monday evening.

“The firing has stopped and the search operation is continuing,” an army official said.

Meanwhile, Internet facility in Pulwama district has been suspended to check the spread of rumors in the area.
